Parenting Week
Parenting Week

Each year we celebrate “Parenting Week” a permanent, annual week of commemoration “for recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the teaching of children.” This year’s theme: “Home and School Partnerships: Breaking Barriers to Learning. ” where parents joined F.S. Ervin Elementary School faculty, staff, and students October 17, 2016 to affirm the school, parent relationship.

After being welcomed by Miss F.S. Ervin, TaMiria Johnson; Mrs. Brenda T. Autry, principal, reaffirmed FSE commitment to excellence. Federal/Special Programs Specialist, Mrs. Debra Turk, emphasized the key factor to student success in the school year-round is parent engagement. Parents made a pledge of commitment to help our community’s children achieve a truly independent future. Mini-sessions were a success on topics such as; Math, taught by I’Mariah Price, a fourth-grade student from Mr. Ronnie Wiggin’s class; Mrs. Essie Morris, school librarian, enlightened parents with helpful reading tips; and Mrs. Quanda Atkins, school counselor, presented a session on how to access our school management system from  home. Lunch and door prizes were provided by FSE PTO, faculty, staff, and community volunteers.

We also invited grandparents to visit and eat lunch on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Grandparents visited classrooms and watched teacher’s model lessons including Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Door prizes were given to the grandparents also.
